The reason was that I had lived in Farnan Avenue in Walthamstow from when I was a very small child until I was an adult.
Farnan Avenue was fast filling up with fire engines, ARP wardens, demolition workers and the rest of the Civil Defence services.
In substantiation of this, a large fire could be seen burning fiercely in the middle of the road, opposite the electricity sub-station and the Walthamstow Town Hall.

Walthamstow Avenue, who disappeared as a club when they merged with Redbridge Forest in the 1980s, have re-formed.
In Avenue's post-war glory days, they won the FA Amateur Cup against Leyton at Wembley in 1952 in front of 100,000 fans, and won the cup again in 1961 against West Auckland.

Ian Altass, 36, of Markmanor Avenue, Walthamstow, lost his 31-year-old wife Rachael in the horrific accident.
She is believed to have died instantly after a joist, being carried on a lorry, crashed through the window of a 56 bus in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, last Monday.
Mr Altass says he will not return to Walthamstow to live because it would be painful being so close to where the accident happened.

I have ancestors who were from Walthamstow and I have a kind friend in England who is willing to drive to Walthamstow to take photos of properties for me. I need to know however, if the properties exist before I send her off on a long drive.

Having joined the Walthamstow Auxiliary League in 1928/29 the founder members of Les Prime, Doug Collier, Sid Marchant and Bill Jones attained the position of ‘runners up’ in their first year.
Having a close association with Walthamstow Avenue and the local youth football, Hale End progressed from the ‘hey days’ of the 1930’s to more modest successes in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Hale End joined a stronger league at the time - the ‘Neamean League’ and remained one of the central figures in amateur football, having to consider the financial pressure of subscriptions, registrations fees and kit (as is relevant to this day).
