Interview With Professor Wamba Dia Wamba Re: The Congo
Wamba: You know, Lumumba represented the first attempt, the first expression of the Congolese people, as a people—expressing how their needs can be attended to by eradicating colonial conditions and by diverting most of the resources to deal with their basic needs.
Wamba: The turning point was when he self-proclaimed himself to be President before even getting to Kinshasa, not contacting even his own executive committee in the organization so that by the time he got to power, he just institutionalized the solitary exercise of power.
Wamba: In respect to any peace movement we think that the US should help in terms of the funding that is required by the UN because that would consolidate the deployment which is needed with the Congolese need to sit and dialogue peacefully so that they can now arrive at a political dispensation.

Wamba (died 687) was the king of the Visigoths in Hispania (Iberian Peninsula) from 672 to 680.
Wamba was, according to one tradition, born in Egitânia, a modest village surrounded by Roman walls that is today called Idanha-a-Velha and located to the northeast of Castelo Branco in Portugal.
Thus, when it began to grow, Wamba agreed to go with the soldiers to become the new king of the Visigoths, being elected and crowned in what is today the tiny village of Wamba in the region around Madrid.

Apart from a broad non-militaristic philosophy voiced by Wamba and a rhetorical commitment to the peaceful resolution of the war in Congo, the goals of the movement in the national war and its position on the war's complex regional dimensions were far from clear.
In May 1999 Wamba was evicted by some of his RCD colleagues in Goma and moved with several founding members and military cadres of the RCD to Kisangani, which at the time was jointly controlled by the Ugandan and the Rwandan armies.
Wamba's opponents claimed that he had favored his Wacongo kinsmen in the selection process but Wamba replied that only 2 percent of the PPU were from his home region of Bas Congo.
