BBC NEWS | Technology | Wanadoo ups basic broadband speed
Wanadoo and many other large net firms are facing competition from cable firms such as NTL and others that already sell broadband services that run at very high speeds.
Wanadoo said it was planning to take over more BT lines in Leeds and Bristol and start doing the same in London, Manchester and Birmingham so it can offer the 8Mbps service to about 12% of the UK population.
Within a year Wanadoo, formerly Freeserve, hopes to have unbundled lines in 500 exchanges to cover 40% of the population.

 broadband » Detail : Wanadoo
I rang Wanadoo who quite happily informed me that "Yes that does happen with our broadband, you just have to put up with it." I said I was putting up with nothing I was paying BT the telephone company for these services and I wanted them.
To be fair to Wanadoo they credited all my money back to me and restarted the account and included an amount that I had claimed for the number of phonecalls.
Also bear in mind that the range of the Wanadoo livebox is pityful - I have a wired connection throught Nildram(Netgear Router) which can stretch further than the Livebox and I would recommend either company to anyone looking for a new ISP in the UK, their contract is monthly btw.

EU upholds antitrust fine on Wanadoo - Boston.com
EU regulators fined Wanadoo in 2003 after finding that it charged "predatory prices" that did not cover its own costs as part of a plan to take control of the high-speed market in its early stages.
Wanadoo challenged this ruling, claiming there was nothing wrong with its pricing and it did not have a monopoly-type position in the fast-growing internet market.
It also rejected Wanadoo's claim that it did not control the market, saying it had a very high market share -- eight times more ADSL subscribers than its next rival.
