 Wandsworth prison
From 1870, conditions at Wandsworth deteriorated and the toilets were removed from the cells to make room for extra prisoners and the practice of "slopping out" introduced which was to remain in force until 1996.
Wandsworth took condemned prisoners from Surrey in the first instance but with the ending of executions at Lewes after 1914, also took those condemned in Sussex and later those from Kent.
Wandsworth continues as the main prison for Surrey and South London to the present day and with the prison population at record levels, holds some 1,300+ men, most at the start of their sentences before they are dispersed to other prisons.

 Wandsworth BSAC branch 1037 Scuba Diving Club South London
Members of Wandsworth BSAC were called upon to fit the 50m-long and 1m-wide 'artwork' after it was commissioned by the Lido's South London Swimming Club.
The artwork is only visible to swimmers, who can see their own reflection against the sky as they move across the surface of the pool.
Wandsworth BSAC divers Paul Barnard, John Heatly and Martin Tobias advised on fitting methods at a trial installation earlier this year.
