HM Prison Wandsworth is a prison in Wandsworth in south London, England.
Subsequently, the toilets were removed to increase prison capacity and the prisoners had to engage in the humiliating process of 'slopping-out' until 1996.
As of June 2005, the operational capacity of Wandsworth Prison was 1416, making it the largest prison in London, and the second largest in Britain, after Liverpool.

Prisoners were visited by a senior prison officer, a probation officer and legal aid and bail unit staff in an effort to ensure that they were provided with the necessary information about the establishment and their legal position.
Prisoners who had booked visits, but whose visitors had not appeared at the appointed time, were nonetheless brought to the visiting room and left to sit alone at a table for the duration of the visiting period.

As many as a third of prisoners lose their housing on imprisonment and around a third of prisoners about to leave prison say that they have nowhere to stay.
The resettlement conference was attended by Ken Sutton, Director of Regimes, HM Prison Service, representatives of many of the prisons in south and east England that regularly receive prisoners from Wandsworth, and a number of key voluntary and statutory sector agencies who contribute to the rehabilitation of prisoners.
It was organised by Wandsworth Prison in conjunction with the Prison Reform Trust and the St Giles Trust, who have been working in partnership for the past year to give greater priority to resettlement in the prison.

Prison Service Director General Martin Narey said he accepted some of Sir David's criticism, but pointed out that the prison had an "excellent" drugs programme and that many staff were "pleasant, courteous and helpful".

The family of Keita Craig will visit Wandsworth Prison today to accept the Home Office's apology for his death there and to view improvements that have been made to prevent further deaths.
In a unique move, the Prison Service accepted that Keita's death violated Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights "the right to life" and offered his family a "Friendly Settlement", including a public apology and acknowledgment of its failings.
