Wandsworth Prison is a prison in Wandsworth in south London, England.
It was designed according to the humane Panopticon principle with a number of corridors radiating from a central control point and each prisoner having toilet facilities.
Subsequently, the toilets were removed to increase prison capacity and the prisoners had to engage in the humiliating process of 'slopping-out' until 1996.

Wandsworth Prison in south London has been rated poorly on all four of the Prison Inspectorate's "healthy prison" tests, Anne Owers said.
During the previous inspection 16 months ago, the prison "was failing to meet basic standards of decency and activity for most of its 1460 prisoners" but the inspectors were told that a strategy was in place to rectify the many failings they found.
In the prisoner survey, responses to 84 of the 122 questions were "significantly worse" than the benchmark for other local prisons.

 Toe by Toe: Prison Project
Prisoners are also frequently transferred around the country's prisons and this often disrupts the scheme though Chris is working hard to set things up so that students can take their books with them and - hopefully - find mentors in the new prison to carry on.
Prison Education departments are generally supportive of the scheme but they have to justify their budgets in the only language that the government understands i.e.
Educationalists have recognised for decades that the proportion of prisoners who are dyslexic is far higher than in the population as a whole.
