Wang Jin-pyng - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wang Jin-pyng ( Chinese : 王金平, pinyin : W嫕g Jīnp璯g) (born March 17, 1941), Taiwanese politician, is the President of the Legislative Yuan and one of six vice chairmen of the Kuomintang.
Wang became the KMT's first Director-General of the Committee on Coordination between Party and Government and the KMT Caucus Convenor in the Legislative Yuan in 1992 following the retirement of the original Legislative Yuan members in December 1991.
Wang is considered to be soft-spoken and a concilatory figure.

 eTaiwanNews.com/Wang advocates ambiguous cross-strait policy
Wang, who also serves as one of the KMT's six vice chairmen, said an ambiguous approach to cross-strait ties would emerge as the best policy to maintain peace and stability at home and in the region.
Wang, favored by pro-independence colleagues to lead the party, said the KMT's top priority is to protect Taiwan's security and maximize the welfare of its people.
Wang's opinions differed from the earlier findings of party's reform committee that stated the Republic of China and Taiwan are two sides of the same coin but that there was no need to alter the country's official title.

CONSENSUS NEEDED PRIOR TO APPROVAL OF ARMS PURCHASE BUDGET
Taipei, Jan. 6 (CNA) As long as a consensus can be reached between the ruling and opposition parties on the substantial parts of the government's arms purchase budget, the passage of the budget and a special statute for the arms purchase will cruise through the legislature, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng said Thursday.
Wang said he told the president that as long as the ruling and opposition parties can agree upon the items and prices in the deal, the budget is sure to be passed before the legislative session finishes at the end of this month.
Wang, who met with President Chen Shui-bian for one hour earlier that day, said Chen expressed concern about the legislature's debate over the controversial NT$610.80 billion arms purchase budget and urged the Legislative Yuan to act on the issue as soon as possible.

Asia Pacific Media Network :: TAIWAN: Editorial: Ill-planned campaigning a failure
Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng, the pan-blue camp's campaign chief, said during a recent interview that the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and People First Party (PFP) are not against Taiwan independence, and that they do not rule out independence as an option for Taiwan's future.
Wang's remarks that the blue camp does not rule out independence are aimed at creating an illusion that Lee's policies are making a comeback in the blue camp.
Wang is merely jockeying for position, siding with the blue camp while also toadying to the green camp.

 FT-122001.htm
Mr Wang's ability to keep his friends is reflected in his close ties with Lee Teng-hui, former president, who was kicked out of the party this year and spent the election accusing his former comrades of selling out to mainland China.
The flow of visitors reflects the pivotal role to be played by Mr Wang, a Nationalist vice-chairman, in a new era of coalition politics heralded by the failure of any party to win a majority in the December 1 poll.
Many analysts say victory for Mr Wang will be a boost for political stability, but it will be an ambiguous success for his beleaguered party as it struggles to rebound from the loss of its half century of control over Taiwan's presidency and parliament.

Saturday's rally to propel opposition to victory: Wang Jin-pyng
Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng, who also heads the pan-blue campaign headquarters, on Thursday announced that the official slogans of the rally are "Change the president and save Taiwan" and "Work for the economy and work for peace."
Wang asked their supporters to wear blue or orange T-shirts to the march and bring along "anything that can make a noise."
"All the participants will start making a noise at exactly 3:20 p.m., which corresponds with the date of the presidential election, March 20, and say aloud that they want to change the president," said Wang, who spoke in Hoklo, commonly known as Taiwanese, throughout the news conference.

Wang's response came after the DPP and the TSU requested that Wang speak his mind before they would guarantee the votes of 87 DPP legislators and 13 TSU lawmakers in tomorrow's election.
Wang has so far remained elusive on the issue.
Lee's open endorsement is expected to boost Wang's confidence that he will at least win the support of the 13 Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) legislators-elect.

eTaiwanNews.com/Wang Jin-pyng bags ninth straight win
Wang came in second place out of nine elected members in the southern county's legislative race.
Wang's every move would be closely watched as talks are rife with possible co-operation with the DPP, the party, now with the largest number of seats with KMT becoming a "little brother" in the Legislative Yuan for the first time in history.
Never a one to ruffle any feathers, Wang is often viewed as a smooth operator who has cultivated close contacts with powerbrokers and head members of the government by maintaining good relationships with other parties.

Plans for KMT, PFP cooperation in year-end vote remain unclear
Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng said in the United States that it would better for the two parties to maintain their ties as political allies and put off talks of a merger until after the legislative elections.
Wang said that opposition groups should maintain their current ties and save talks of a merger or an alliance until after the legislative polls.
Wang said that now is not the right time to discuss a merger between the KMT and the PFP as the issue is more likely to divide rather than unite the two parties.

SALE OF SUBMARINES TO TAIWAN NO LONGER ON U.S. PRIORITY LIST
Briefing reporters after meeting with U.S. Department of Defense officials, Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng, noted that the U.S. government's priorities for providing Taiwan with a sufficient defensive capability have changed, and the issue of the submarine purchase was not discussed.
Wang stressed that, according to U.S. estimates, the military balance will tip away from Taiwan and in favor of mainland China in between two to five years.
The U.S. could supply the above defensive weapons systems to Taiwan almost immediately, but Wang noted that Taiwan might have to wait until 2014 before taking delivery of a single submarine, perhaps too long to be of any use.

Wang Jin-pyng, also a KMT vice chairman, tried to convince his fellow lawmakers that he did not harbor any partisan interests in ending the session by leaving the referendum bill unresolved.
Wang, after wrapping up a one-week trip to the US on July 1, saw that multiparty negotiations on the six bills had gone nowhere and said he had to ensure the special session achieved results.
Wang, meanwhile, urged the nine-member alliance of independent lawmakers to give the last-minute go-ahead to the Statue Governing the Establishment and Management of Free Ports (自由貿易港區設置及管理條例), regardless of whether they got the support of other parties to prioritize a draft on offshore islands in the next legislative session, legislative sources said.
