  Wansford
Wansford is a particularly picturesque village with most of the buildings built of ‘coursed limestone rubble with freestone quoins’ (that’s rough bits for most of the wall but flat square stone at the corners).
The Wansford bypass with its new bridge was constructed in 1929 heralding another eventual change, the demise of the railway, as well as relieving the antique bridge of heavy traffic.
In the centre of Wansford bridge is a boundary post that records the north end of the bridge as being in the Soke of Peterborough while the south end is in Huntingdonshire.

 Nene Valley Railway - Wansford Station
Wansford station is the headquarters of the Nene Valley Railway.
The signalbox at Wansford was built in 1907 by the London and North Western Railway to replace three smaller boxes.
In 1977 the turntable moved to Wansford where it was extended by 7 foot to make it 67 foot in length and was commissioned in September 1978.

 Nene Valley Railway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Before the stock could be moved from the BSC depot to Wansford, the missing 400 yards of the Fletton Loop had to be rebuilt, allowing access to the Nene Valley line.
The track was completed in March 1974, and the stock moved to Wansford in time for the Easter weekend, when the new 'Wansford Steam Centre' opened for the first time.
The original Wansford station is located on platform three and was built in 1844/18845 in Jacobean style for the opening of the railway.

St Mary's has a nave with a two-bay N aisle without any windows and a S doorway under a porch.
The font was brought to the church from Sibberton Lodge, where it had been in use as a cattle trough.

Since the line reopened Wansford station has been enlarged with a brand new building, incorporating a booking office was errected alongside thr road, this opened in 1995.
The Great Northern Railway opened a line from Stamford to a junction with the Nene Valley line just east of Wansford on 9th August 1867 and Wansford became a major junction when the LNWR opened their new line from Yarwell Junction (just west of Wansford) to Seaton on 1st November 1879.
Between 1974 and May 1977 the line was upgraded to passenger standards and on 24 May the Railway Inspector passed the railway as fit for passenger carrying operations and the Nene Valley Railway between Wansford and Orton Mere was officially opened on 1 June 1977.

The Nene Valley Railway runs from Peterborough to Wansford Station which is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself.
As all the signals and one track had been removes it was decided to make the line suitable for continental rolling stock which although they run on the same track gauge have a bigger loading gauge.
On 1st June 1977 the Nene Valley Railway was opened with a train from Wansford station with Nord 2-6-0 and a Swedish 2-6-2 tank pulling a 4-cor set in SR green.

May 19th saw D9009 stabled at Wansford while 55019 was on duty.
The final train of the weekend was a 17.45 Peterborough-Wansford which was triple headed using 55019, 47401 and 31108.
