Wantage Township is in the Fifth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 24th Legislative District.
The three schools in the district are the Clifton E. Lawrence School in Wantage (527 students in grades Kingergarten to 2), Wantage Elementary School in Sussex (553 students in grades 3 - 5) and Sussex Middle School in Sussex (638 students in grades 6-8).

Of particular note in the town are the Vale and Downland Museum in Church Street, Wantage, the 13th century parish church and the Market Square with its statue of King Alfred (born in Wantage in 849AD).

Wantage stands on the spring line between the chalk downs to the south and the clay Thames flood plain to the north on a prehistoric east - west route called the Icknield Way.
The ancient fairs of Wantage defended by Fulk Fitzwarin in 1276 from the Abbott of Abingdon are still held today, despite an abolition attempt by Charles II in 1665.
The commencement of the Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal in 1796 brought an influx of 'outsiders' to the previously rural town.

Lord Wantage was Chairman, and practically Manager, of a large commercial enterprise started by a near relative of his, the London Electric Supply Corporation, which he steered successfully through many difficulties.
Lord Wantage was an active member of Berkshire County Council and President of Reading College (now the University), in the Agricultural Department of which he took a special interest.
He was a liberal contributor to the expense of building the new Science Schools attached to Wantage Grammar School and contributed a large portion of the capital necessary for the laying down of the Tramway to the town’s Railway Station.
