The PCB said that it considered appointing Waqar on the suggestion of captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, which was approved by PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and national coach Bob Woolmer.
The statement said that after Waqar had asked for a longer assignment, until the 2007 World Cup and not just the India tour, he was told that the issue had to be discussed by a committee.
