Topic: War (System of a Down Single)

War (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Starr's version of "War" was a #1 hit on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1970, and is not only the most successful and well-known record of his career, but is also one of the most popular protest songs ever recorded.
Whitfield re-created the song to match Starr's James Brown-influenced soul shout: the single version of "War" was dramatic and intense, depicting the general anger and distaste the antiwar movement felt towards the war in Vietnam.
Starr's cover of "War" in 2003 was his final recording; he died on April 2 of the same year of a heart attack.

War (System of a Down single) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"War?" is a single from System of a down's first and self titled album.
The song is generally thought to be about mankind fighting wars for wealth and other material gains throughout the centuries while coming up with great reasons for it; one of the first reasons given for such wars was that God commanded the war.
As this reason changed to fighting communism and eventually terrorism, the war was still being fought for material gain and global domination.

Perhaps more argument, or more specimens, could be used to nail down the claim that anyone or everyone who affirms the necessity of war, as of violence in the domestic police system, makes the point that they have not given up on moral concern; they only put the threshold somewhere else.
War has the burden of proof, but its advocates can bear that burden, as long as the limits of the concession are specified.
In the laws of war the most frequently used example of a dead letter is the provisions of the laws of naval warfare which were in effect during WWI when submarines came on the scene, and continued to be elaborated in new (unrealistic) treaties in the 1920's.

On the intersection of politics and art: System of a Down is very, very polished for thrashy metal, speed metal or whatever it is called, but sometimes the lyrics are simply didactic, as if to "bash it into their thick heads." Many people go into punk rock with this intention in mind.

System of a Down chose to document the protests for the "Boom!" video because the band felt the anti-war movement wasn't getting enough exposure.
Columbia Records suggested a different track to be the album's new single, but System of a Down felt "Boom!" would allow them a platform to express their anti-war sentiments.

At 37 minutes, Mezmerize, the first half of the forthcoming double album from heavy mental quartet System of a Down, is the band's most punctual outing.
Perhaps System's tightest and most intense material to date, Mezmerize —; which comes out on May 17 — is loaded with breakneck, Slayeresque riffs and a complex sense of melody that's reminiscent of Faith No More.
The disc finally eases down for its two closers, the digitally manipulated, synth-heavy "Old School Hollywood," and the anthemic "Lost in Hollywood." According to Malakian, the lyrics to the former were inspired by an uncomfortable experience he had playing in a celebrity baseball game.

In the aristocratic system into which Talleyrand was born, it was common for the eldest son in a family to enter the military (and to inherit the property and titles) while the second son made a career in the clergy.
However, Talleyrand’s impaired physical mobility (due to a malformed foot, which some attribute to Marfan syndrome) meant that in his case the custom was reversed: his younger brother was named heir while Talleyrand—although a notorious unbeliever—was ordained a priest in 1779 at the age of 25.
Even in later years, when local and amateur war historians began documenting the fall of the German cities, their studies did not alter the fact that the images of this horrifying chapter of our history have never really crossed the threshold of the national consciousness.
