Topic: War of attrition game

Attrition warfare - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Attrition warfare is a strategic concept that to win a war, one's enemy must be worn down to the point of collapse by continuous losses in personnel and material.
A well-known example of this is during World War I on the Western Front, where both forces found themselves in static defensive positions in trenches that ran from the Swiss Alps to the English Channel.
In the sense that attrition warfare represents an attempt to grind down an opponent through superior numbers, it represents the opposite of the usual principles of war, where one attempts to achieve decisive victories through maneuver, concentration of force, surprise, and so forth.

In a second paper will be discussed important option games models like oligopoly under uncertainty, war of attrition and other models of positive externalities, models with either incomplete or asymmetric information, the current option-games models limitations, and suggestions for future research.
In this second paper we focus on models of oligopoly under uncertainty, war of attrition under uncertainty, and the changing the war of attrition game toward a bargaining game.
The bargaining game strategy must be compared mainly with the follower strategy in asymmetric war of attrition.

In Game 6, a 4-3 Leafs victory, Chara was missed desperately on the Senators blue line, and not only because his replacement, Persson, took the major for hitting Domi from behind that allowed the Leafs to turn an early 2-0 deficit into a 2-2 tie.
They then won Game 5 in Toronto, with Daniel Alfredsson executing a brutal hit on Darcy Tucker that created the winning goal and eliminated Tucker from the series, but once more couldn't follow up with a victory on home ice despite their early lead.

The War of Attrition with Expected Changes of Future Terms. Kovtunenko B.I. Abstract, 1999
In contrast to the conventional infinite horizon war of attrition setting, we introduce an external constraint on the duration of the “war”.
In the “dead zone” the “war” ends with probability zero and, thus, once the game evolved into the “dead zone”, it is common knowledge for the players that the “war” will last till the very end.
It is also shown that in some cases the introduction of the external constraint on the duration of the “war” can not only raise but also lower the expected social welfare.

There are two well-studied timing games in economics: In a war of attrition, having more predecessors helps; in a pre-emption game, more predecessors hurts.
This paper introduces and explores a rich new spanning class of timing games with rank-order payoffs that subsume both timing games as special cases, but in general allows one timing game to ‘morph’ into another.
Also, anticipation of a later timing game influences current play -- from swelling the magnitude of pre-emptive explosions to truncating wars of attrition.

uch of the existing literature on 'wars of attrition' focuses on games with only two players, or on the straightforward generalization to N+1 players competing for N prizes.
In such games, except in the final stage, a player’s departure will not end the game, and players may continue to incur at least some costs even after they have conceded.
First, if firms continue to pay their full costs after dropping out (as in a standard-setting context), each firm’s exit time is independent both of K and of the actions of other players.
