 GATHERING AGRARIAN CRISIS -
  Warangal district is bounded on the North by the Karimnagar district, on the West by the Medak district, on the South by the Nalgonda district and on the SouthEast by the Khammam district.
            Warangal district lies in the North- East part of Andhra Pradesh between the latitudes of 17 -19 and 18-36 degrees North and longitudes 73-49 and 80-43 degree East, covering an area of 12,835.5 sq.
Soils in Warangal are mostly chalka soils (sandy loam) 64 percent and is followed by black soil (regur) 21 percent and dubba (loamy sands) 14 percent.

Khammam town which was the seat of Taluk Administration was part of the large Warangal district till 1st October, 1953, when the five taluks of the Warangal district viz., Khammam, Madhira, Yellandu, Burgampad and Paloncha (Now Kothagudem) were carved out and a new district Khammam with Khammam as District Headquarters was formed.
In 1959 Bhadrachalam Revenue Division consisting Bhadrachalam and Nugur Venkatapuram taluks of East Godavari district, were merged into Khammam on grounds of geographical contiguity and administrative viability.
When mandals were introduced in the year 1985, the district has been divided into 46 Mandals & four Revenue Divisions - Khammam, Kothagudem, Paloncha & Bhadrachalam.

 Death Toll Rises As Multi Mystery Illnesses Plague India
A child in Warangal and 3 children in adjoining Karimnagar district died, while 6 fresh cases -- 3 from each of the 2 districts-- were reported, taking the number of cases to 157.
During the last 24 hours, 5 deaths were reported from Warangal, 4 in Karimnagar, and one in Ranga Reddy district, official sources said.

Five taluks of the Warangal district viz., Khammam, Madhira, Yellandu, Burgampadu and Paloncha (Now Kothagudem) were carved out and a new district KHAMMAM with Khammam as District Headquarters.
In 1959 Bhadrachalam Revenue Division consisting Bhadrachalam and Nuguru Venkatapuram Taluks of East Godawari district, which were on the other side of the river Godawari were merged into Khammam on grounds of geographical contiguity and administrative viability.
The present name of Khammam is said to have been derived from the name of the temple 'Narsimhadri', later 'Stamba Sikhari' and then it was termed as 'Stambadhri'.The vertical rock under the temple is known as 'KAMBA'.
