North Dakota is bordered on the north by the Canadian Provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, on the west by Montana, on the south by South Dakota, and on the east, across the Red River of the North and the Bois de Sioux River, by Minnesota.
North Dakota is a prime example of a continental climate; distant from major bodies of water to moderate the weather, conditions range from sweltering heat and humidity to bitter cold.
North Dakota's reputation for severe weather has been cited by many as a motivating factor behind outmigration and the failure of outside industry to locate in the state, though some have found this to be a secondary factor to the overall economic situation in the state.

Mgood I was just visiting the US Genweb page for North Dakota and was hoping to find some information on Ward County as much of my family is from Makoti.
They were in North Dakota in the early 1900's, but have found no trail of them since.
My teenage daughter and I are trying to research the original owners of our house and what may have happened to their sons (we have copies of their obituaries from microfilm at the library)..We were also hoping to maybe find photos of our house when it was first built--if possible.

city, seat (1888) of Ward county, north-central North Dakota, U.S. It lies on the Souris River (also called the Mouse River), about 50 miles (80 km) south of the Canadian border and about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of Bismarck.
It was settled in 1886 as a tent town for construction of the Great Northern Railway and was named to honour Henry Davis Minot, an Eastern railroad investor.
It is situated about 30 miles (50 km) north of the geographical centre of North America and 81 miles (130 km) northeast of Minot, N.D. The park has a total area of 2,220 acres (898 hectares), of which 887 acres (359 hectares) are in the United States.
