Ward County is a county located in the state of North Dakota.
The southern reaches of the county are dotted with numerous small lakes, water neither sloping towards the Souris River basin nor Lake Sakakawea.
In the county the population is spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 13.00% from 18 to 24, 29.10% from 25 to 44, 19.20% from 45 to 64, and 12.50% who are 65 years of age or older.

Named after Calvin Ward, this town was one of the richest in the state of Colorado.
Today there are still people living in Ward and it is said there is enough gold under the town to warrant razing the buildings and mining it out.
There were a number of high producing mines in Ward, the most prominent being the Columbia Mine which produced $5 million in ore during its prime.

Burlington was established in 1883, the first town in all of Imperial Ward County.
The first load of grain sold by a farmer in Ward County was hauled to Devils Lake in spring of 1885 by James Johnson.

Born Mary King, the daughter of a rector in Offaly, she was a botanical artist and outstanding naturalist who published a number of books connected with the microscope.
She married Henry Ward (1828-1911) in 1854 but died before he succeeded his brother as fifth Viscount in 1881.

Manuel Lujan Sr., president of Ward County Irrigation District No. 1, said that although he considered Forrester a personal friend, he did not like the idea of a radioactive waste storage facility locating to the area.
