 Splendid E-zine reviews: M. Ward
As Radiohead plunges into abstract, modern, post-whatever music, M. Ward takes a step back into the romantic era of the acoustic guitar -- a time when it wasn't unacceptably clichéd to sing about women who burned their way into your memories, happy and nostalgic childhood times and fellow guitar legends.
It begins with one of Ward's '40s radio recordings, which is soon replaced by a melodic acoustic guitar and a light drum.
Ward's vocals here resemble an American version of Nick Drake; indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if this song is meant to pay homage to him.

In Music We Trust - M. Ward: End of Amnesia
From the faint to the jangle-y, M. Ward manages to master it all on his latest, End of Amnesia, an album that is subtle and lo-fi, reveling in the quiet moments, saying more with silence than most artists will ever manage to say in their lives.
Ward's voice is shaky and airy, sounding like a cross between just waking up and walking around in complete confusion, balancing it all with a bit of heart broken sorrow and melancholy appreciation for life and all of its wonderful surprises.
The songs are potent in lyrical content, which M. Ward makes apparent when he sings, wrapping the tunes around his voice, preferring to use the instrumentation as a guide rather than a force to overshadow.

Ward’s lyrics, complimented by traditional grassy leads and Roy Clark’s devilish backside, are honest memories expressing themes such as sadness and lost love.
Ward often reminds us of the importance of forgiving our failed youthful endeavors best revisited during adulthood: "Now my mind is free to walk the streets we used to walk so quietly," he states proudly on "So Much Water," showing us it’s all right to revisit the past, as long as we keep swimming upstream.
The music has depth and is played passionately, showcasing tight instrumentals like "Silverline" and "End of Amnesia" with slap driven rhythms and slide guitar, not to mention subtle noise collages, old radio show mixes and slow fades bridging each song to the next.

Rodney O. Davis | Lincoln's "Particular Friend" and Lincoln Biography | Journal of the Abraham Lincoln Association, 19.1
RODNEY O. Ward Hill Lamon has been variously characterized as a great soul whose friendship "was an asset to any man" and one who loved Abraham Lincoln and gave him his loyalty to the fullest.
But by the time the 1872 book was published, Ward Hill Lamon no longer had a collaborator/ghostwriter; apparently, he had no source materials at his disposal on which to base such a book; and worst, he had no steady income.
He was at the end of his life and content to leave the field to others.

"Well, I was all geared up and ready to go," Matt Ward croaks, soon harmonizing with a very Young-esque, high-pitched backup for the line, "The color of the water was green." The remaining lyrics overflow with imagery, as if Ward's only purpose is to prove the effectiveness of his memory.
The comparison to Sparklehorse's lone creative force seems quite obvious, as both Linkous and Ward are country- and folk-influenced artists who scratch unavoidable, but nominally disruptive marks on the traditional blueprint.
This is what makes Ward's recollections worth hearing: in sound and word, he's intent on remembering the past, but he's too modern to let it define him.

Ward’s finished product is more akin to the half-baked ideas found in the demo tapes that litter the desk of unfortunate AandR men at every label than a full-fledged studio release.
Even when Ward pulls a few extras into his songs such as a flute and static noises ("Half Moon") or spooky synthetic flying-saucer noises ("Archangel Tale"), they don’t do anything to further his songwriting, and Ward’s nasal delivery doesn’t do anything to help clear up the problems with ambiance on this album.
Ward is brilliant in my world, and "End Of Amnesia" is one of my all time favourite albums, those that make me shiver.

This court has established a bright-line rule in L.W. that the guardian of an incompetent ward possesses the authority to direct withholding or withdrawal of life-sustaining medical treatment, including artificial nutrition and hydration, if it is in the best interests of the ward and the ward is in a persistent vegetative state.
It is a fundamental premise of L.W. that ordinarily decisions to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining medical treatment of a ward are to be made by a guardian in conjunction with doctors and the family, not by the courts.
