 Talk:Warhammer 40,000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've just moved the page to Warhammer 40,000 species on the basis that "species" is not a proper noun, so should not be capitalised in an article name.
I have created a Warhammer 40,000 Species page, moved the list there and tidied up the paragraph about it on this article.
My opinion is that the information should be listed more generalised eg: 'The Warhammer 40,000 game, and consequentially the fictional universe, is made up of many races and species.

Necrons aren't new, they have been a minor species with special edition models for many years, its only in the last 5 years or so they have became a semi-major species.
Yeah, I agree with that, but saying Blizzard was going to make a Warhammer 40,000 game rather than StarCraft is a whole different matter.
I also think that the similarities to Goa'uld are because the Necrons are partly based on the Warhammer Fantasy Egyptian-themed undead of Khemri.

Fragland.net Previews ::: Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War
This was done to provide a good game experience while the developers still strived to be true to the Warhammer 40k universe itself.
Yet a greater danger exists, the taint of Chaos the living embodiment of all dark and evil thoughts and feelings of all the species in the Universe, the four Gods of Chaos strive to dominate and subvert all life by luring warriors of all kinds to their cause.
Mankind is not alone in the universe, aliens of all kinds exist in this universe, the ancient and powerful Eldar species the brutish savage Orcs and the all consuming Tyranids all stalk Human kind for their own reasons.

A 1500 point Tyranid army list using the Hive Fleet Arachnia list containing only Hive Tyrant, Hormagaunt, and Termagant models would be considered to contain 8 species on its unique Tyranid Hive Fleet list, even though only 3 species were in the actual 1500 point Tyranid army list.
If an army list can only be legally fielded using two or more Force Organization charts because different types of army lists are used, and any of the models in one of the armies has some type of discord that affects gameplay with any of the models in another army: Add 12 points.
If an army list can only be legally fielded using two or more Force Organization charts because different types of army lists are used, and those different types of army lists both require a unique codex: Add 4 points.

 Warhammer 40,000 - Necrons
The first of the C'tan to manifest across the incorporeal starlight bridge, the Nightbringer brought with it the curse of death that had plagued the Necrontyr race since their birth.
The war between the Old Ones and the C'tan unleashed forces beyond understanding, and the suffering caused among the elder races cannot be fully comprehended.
Its appetite knew no bounds and only with desperate pledges of servitude were the Necrontyr able to convince the creature they had summoned forth that there were yet more races beyond their world that could be feasted upon - species beyond number for it to destroy.

GW Online : Warhammer 40,000 : Necrons : Necron Designers' Notes
When we were making proposals for a new Warhammer 40,000 race (Tau and Kroot winning out in the end), I had included one for the C'tan, masters of the Necrons.
Then came Warhammer 40,000 3rd edition and a long, fallow period for the Necrons while the other races had their Codexes updated with lots of new miniatures.
To cement the C'tan and Necrons into the Warhammer 40,000 background we worked up a suitably cosmic struggle for supremacy at the dawn of time.

 Regarding Female Marines (guest commentary)
No—she would be a nun, and in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, nuns are Sisters of Battle.
It is true that the focus of Warhammer 40K lies heavily with the Space Marines, and I myself once said that the game might well be called “Marinehammer 40,000.” But in this case, claiming that females are overlooked is not totally fair.
Also, while Space Marines surely are the main focus of the Warhammer 40,000 game, not all people want to play them.
