Wario World - Gamecube Reviews on NinBit
Wario World centers on the plight of the Spritelings, a diminutive race of humanoids that rivals Zelda's Tingle in droll outlandishness.
Wario's game definitely seems to be in the same genre as our red plumber friend's, but the perspective is such that it manages to feel fresh and exciting at times, especially with few releases like it taking place each year.
Wario World's soundtrack coalesces everything music shouldn't be--cacophonous noise and downright odd vocal effects--and "normal" use of instruments; by itself, it wouldn't be anything special, but the general sound fits Wario so well that it compliments the game's tone and gives it some much-needed original attributes.

Since Wario is the anti-hero he always goes against the grain, which shows itself in Wario World.
Wario World has little in common with Super Mario Sunshine gameplay-wise, our man Wario is far more aggressive and has a penchant for beating the living snot out of everything in sight.
It must be remembered though that Wario World is far from finished and that it ahs a long way to go, complete with several release date changes (it was originally slated for a November 2002 release!).

There are parts of WW when Wario is locked in an area and given a set time to squash as many enemies as possible.
When all is said and done, Wario World is a fun, splashy, albeit short and easy game with some great small touches and a hint of sidescrolling nostalgia.

 Wario World /// Eurogamer
What characterises Wario World though is the quasi-3D environments, into which Wario can move quite a distance, even though he can't centre the camera behind him or take a look around in the first person.
Then there are the various discarded pieces of Wario's golden statues, which alert you to their presence with a ringing, glittering sort of noise, are often hidden just off-screen or in challenge rooms, and once collected add another half-heart to our anti-hero's health meter.
And Wario World isn't afraid to break up the play with a stop-and-beat-me enemy like the ice world's "Angler", a massive iced-over fish with a weak spot that has to be targeted by piledriving smaller enemies and having them bounce up and hit it like cartoony collateral damage.

NTSC-uk review > Nintendo GameCube > Wario World
Wario World is one of those pseudo-3D platform games - while not totally free roaming like Mario Sunshine, it has a much greater degree of flexibility than strictly 2D affairs.
Rather than uninspiring and bland levels, littered with items to collect, Wario World features individually themed levels each with their own tricks and surprises, and really proves that the magic is still in games.
Wario World is a very straight forward affair, as you progress from one level directly to the next.

Wario’s trademark voice is back and it never fails to put a smile on my face when he dishes out the one-liners, despite the fact that nearly every move, from jumping to grabbing an enemy will have the fat guy saying something.
Wario is one of my favorite Nintendo characters so I never tired of hearing the same things over and over, but I can see how someone else could become irritated with the voice quite quickly.
I think Wario World is one of those games that would be great at $29.99, but spending $49.99 is just asking a bit too much.

 Wario World - Gamecube review
Wario has a number of attacks at his disposal, the most basic of which being his fists and the ubiquitous 3D platformer butt-stomp.
Wario himself is also rendered authentically, down to his idle animations (one of which involved him scratching his butt which had me laughing out loud.) With no slowdown or clipping issues that I noticed, and the fixed-angle camera eliminating most camera-control issues, Wario World looks pretty from start to finish.
The highlight is Wario’s voice, as he randomly shouts out classic Wario quotes like “I’m number one!” and “Have a rotten day!” Other than that, there is no voice acting to speak of, and the background music is just kind of there, and fairly forgettable.
