WARMOUTH (LEPOMIS GULOSUS) The warmouth is native to the Mississippi River and Great Lakes basins from western Pennsylvania to Minnesota, south to the Gulf Coast, in the Atlantic and Gulf drainages from Virginia to Texas and New Mexico.
The warmouth is primarily a lowland species, inhabiting oxbow lakes, quiet waters of bayous and rivers, and swamps having mud and detritus bottoms.
If Warmouths have a safe place to hide and provided they will not fit in any mouths, they can be put in with larger, more aggressive fish such as Bass, Oscars or Bluegills, although they will not be as competitive as these other fish when it comes to feeding time.

The warmouth is a freshwater fish native to the eastern United States from the Great Lakes region southward to the Mississippi River drainage and throughout the Atlantic states (Eddy 1957; Hubbs and Lagler 1958).
