WAUSHARA, County, is bounded on the north by Portage and Waupacca, east by Winnebago, south by Marquette, and west by Adams, and is 18 miles north and south by 36 miles east and west.

 Waushara County Surveyor
Within 60 days after completing any survey, the county surveyor shall make a true and correct copy of the foregoing record, in record books or on reproducible papers to be furnished by the county and kept in files in the office of the county surveyor to be provided by the county.
In a county with a population of 500,000 or more where there is no county surveyor, a copy of the record shall also be filed in the office of the regional planning commission which acts in the capacity of county surveyor for the county.
In counties with a population of 500,000 or more the copy shall be filed in the office of the register of deeds and in the office of the regional planning commission which acts in the capacity of county surveyor for the county.

The county jail was built in the Summer of 1881, by James Hewett, C. Blakeslee, James O'Neill, Sr., and James Sturdevant, who, as security on the bonds of County Treasurer, Allen, were compelled to make good a deficiency discovered in the funds that official held in trust.
In 1871-72, be served the county as Sheriff; 1876-77, was elected to the Assembly from Wood, Clark, Lincoln and Taylor counties; was Chairman of the Town Board for 1878-79-80.

Wisconsin became a state in 1848, with Waushara County being formed February 15, 1851 from Marquette County.
The county originally consisted of a single town, which was the Town of Waushara and with the county seat first located at Sacramento.
In 1852 the county was organized for judicial purposes and in September 1854 the county seat was moved to Wautoma, where it remains today.

Land use permits are required from the Waushara County Zoning Office in all unincorporated areas (outside of City and Village limits) of all 18 Townships, except those lands in the Township of Warren, which are greater than 1,000 feet from a lake or 300 feet from a stream.
It is the responsibility of the Waushara County Planning and Zoning Committee to review each conditional use application carefully to ascertain that the proposed land use will not adversely affect neighboring properties or the community or environment, cause conflicts, nor demand services of the community that would pose an unnecessary burden or expense to provide.
All uniform property address numbers in the unincorporated areas of Waushara County (and a small part of the Village of Lohrville along State Highway 21) are assigned by the County Zoning Office.

 Village of Redgranite, Wisconsin
Redgranite in Waushara County has one of the most colorful histories and was the site of what was called a "boom town." The area was called Sand Prairie in the late 1800's and had been settled as farm land.
In 1889 six granite quarrymen from Berlin--William Bannerman, John Bannerman, David Horne, Jr., William Horne, William Laing, and George Thackeray--visited Sand Prairie to investigate and examine the granite ledge on the north side of the George H. Cronk farm in the Town of Warren.
During those boom days, Redgranite was the largest village in Waushara County and had close to 2,000 inhabitants.
