Warren said that he's proud of the advancements the department has made under his leadership, especially those related to on-the-job safety – such as instituting annual physical and medical assessments, creating the shift safety chief role at each station, and increasing the number of firefighters on the first units responding to service calls.
Warren said the biggest challenge of his tenure has been in recruiting and hiring minority and women firefighters.
The Austin Association of Professional Firefighters last year delivered a resounding vote of no confidence in the chief – a symbolic gesture prompted by Warren's proposal (at the instruction of Futrell and her team) to cut AFD costs by downsizing crews at certain central-city and suburban fire stations.

Austin and Gibson were strident interventionists who believed that the United States should have offered all possible aid to the Allies short of war.
As a longtime senator and lawyer, Austin spent a good deal of his life abroad, gaining an appreciation for the importance of international cooperation that would greatly influence his position on American neutrality.

William R. Jones, professor emeritus of religion and director of fl studies at Florida State University, says that "evil is a label," a term for someone else's interests that conflict with one's own.
Davidson Loehr, minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, Texas, however, believes that evil is real: "Of course there is evil, and it is in us." Good, he says, has no meaning unless evil has meaning, and he defines evil as constricting life into too small a vision, of treating people like things.
