WARRENSBURG -- Town Councilman Austin Markey on Wednesday publicly accused the Town Board of lawbreaking, saying the current town supervisor and his administration have repeatedly held secret meetings in violation of the Open Meetings Law, used threats and coercion to intimidate town employees and ignored clear conflicts of interest in decision-making.
Cooper also took the Town Board to task in her resignation letter, saying she had learned from others outside the town government that her position was to be eliminated as of Jan. 1.
An attorney for the town, Robert Hafner, suggested that Markey could be mistaking violations of the Open Meetings Law with the lawful practice in which the Town Board meets with the town attorney to consult about legal issues.
