 MECHANIZED INFANTRY : Encyclopedia Entry
They are distinguished from motorized infantry in that their vehicles provide a degree of protection from hostile fire, as opposed to "soft-skinned" trucks or jeeps.
In the British Army, "heavy" units equipped with the tracked Warrior IFV are described as "Armoured Infantry", and units with the wheeled Saxon APC as "Mechanised Infantry".
Recently the United States Army has fielded both armored divisions and "heavy" infantry divisions; the organization of the two types was almost identical, except that the ratio of armored battalions to mechanized infantry battalions is slightly higher in the armored divisions and slightly lower in the heavy infantry divisions.

A Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle, it's kind of a baby tank that also carries 7 bayonet weilding maniacs in the back.
For your info in future, the fuel tank is internal, the flash hider is just about accurate, all IFV's have infantry in the back (that's what they're for), and the applique armour fitted during operations isn't reactive.

One thing about IFVs like their predecessor, the armored personnel carrier (APC), they have proven to be quite versatile vehicles.
Not only did it spawn off numerous variants (anti-tank, ambulance, mortar carrier, command post, anti-aircraft, and cargo vehicle among them), it even became an IFV for Turkey, the Netherlands, the Philippines, and Belgium when a turret with a 25mm cannon was placed on, replacing the 12.7mm machine gun.
In addition to the slightly under-armed IFV (M1126), the Strykers variants include a reconnaissance version (M1127), a 105mm assault gun (M1128), a mortar carrier (M1129), command post (M1130), fire support (M1131), engineering support (M1132), ambulance (M1133), anti-tank (M1134), and NBC reconnaissance (M1135).
