Warsaw Rising Museum | Warsaw Life
The Warsaw Rising Museum, arguably the city’s finest museum, was opened in 2004 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the doomed Warsaw Uprising of 1944.
The Warsaw Rising Museum attempts to accurately recreate the atmosphere and events of the struggle of 1944, and to give a picture of the realities of life under the Nazis which precipitated the fight for freedom.
A trip to the Warsaw Rising Museum is pretty much essential for any visitor of the city - particularly those that think that the sins of the Second World War are forgotten and forgiven.

Undertaken by the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK), the Polish resistance group, at the time Allied troops were breaking through the Normandy defenses and the Red Army was standing at the line of the Vistula River.
Warsaw could have been one of the first European capitals liberated; however, various military and political miscalculations, as well as global politics — played among Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) — turned the dice against it.
This site is dedicated to all those who fought for their freedom in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 as well as all those who, as civilians, perished in the effort.

After von dem Bachs arrived in Warsaw (August 7), it became clear that atrocities only stiffened the resistance and that some political solution should be found due to the small forces at the disposal of the German commander.
The knowledge of the Warsaw Uprising, inconvenient to Stalin, was twisted by propaganda of the People's Republic of Poland, which stressed the failings of Home Army and the Polish government in exile, and forbade all critisim of the Red Army or the political goals of Soviet strategy.
From 1956 on the image of Warsaw Uprising in Polish propaganda was changed a little bit to underline that the soldiers were indeed brave, while the officers were treacherous and that the commanders were characterized by disregard of the losses.

 Warsaw Rising 1944
In August 1944, Warsaw appeared to present the last major obstacle to the Soviet army's triumphant march from Moscow to Berlin.
Largely sidelined in history books and often confused with Ghetto Uprising of 1943, the 1944 Warsaw Rising was a pivotal moment both in the outcome of the Second World War and in the origins of the cold war.

Amazon.com: Rising '44: The Battle for Warsaw: Books: Norman Davies   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
The Warsaw rising of 1944—not to be confused with the Warsaw Ghetto uprising of 1943—pitted Polish insurgents of the Home Army against the Germans in a two-month battle that left the city in ruins.
This extremely well-written book outlines the history both before, during and after the '44 rising, and the great detail shows that there was a deliberate ignoring of the plight of the Polish patriots by their Western allies, with a stalling on the part of the Soviets until the rising was crushed by the Nazis.
The Warsaw Uprising was forgotten not because was unimportant or of small value but because it needed to be forgotten by those that were ashamed of not coming to the rescue.

Warsaw Rising Museum - Gridskipper, the Urban Travel Guide
The Warsaw Rising Museum, dedicated to the city s anti-Nazi uprising in 1944, doesn't feature prominently in most guidebooks or tours.
Nevertheless, Warsaw residents from across the spectrum steer this decidedly un-touristy town s overwhelmed visitors towards the massive display housed in the former power plant for the city s once sprawling tram system.
The intricacy with which the organizers portray the 63-day siege of the city can get tiresome, with every food receptacle, bullet, personal identification card, and even a long-forgotten chunk of bread preserved by an ailing freedom fighter filed meticulously amongst three stories of videos, weapons and slide displays.

A few years later, influenced perhaps in part by Persian gold, they formed the nucleus of the league against Sparta.
At the battles of Haliartus (395) and Coronea (394) they again proved their rising military capacity by standing their ground against the Spartans.
The result of the war was especially disastrous to Thebes, as the general settlement of 387 stipulated the complete autonomy of all Greek towns and so withdrew the other Boeotians from its political control.
