The papers of the day here in Warsaw were full of letters written back from the war, full of accounts of the battles, and much is said of new companies being formed.
Ice around Warsaw in the summer time was a very scarce article and it is doubtful if these early owners of meat markets kept much fresh meat on hand in the hot season.
There were few doctors about Warsaw that did not go to the war for a period of from one to two years.

When the township was first settled in 1774, the only method of traveling in the township at that time was by way of a horse.
The cars were heated in the wintertime by means of coal stoves, which was a luxury at that time when compared to the Kingston line which relied solely on several inches of straw scattered on the floor for the purpose of keeping the passengers’ feet warm in the winter.
Perhaps many a township resident will recall that it was not an uncommon sight years ago to see many an adventurous teenager hop on the back of a street car in order to get a free ride into Wilkes-Barre.

Miss Bowers, a lifelong resident of the Punxsutawney area, was born September 7, 1877, in Gaskill Township, a daughter of William and Minerva Winslow Bowers.
Born in Warsaw Twp, near Hazen, Jane 3, 1883, a daughter of Henry H. and Linda Slawson Morey, she was married first to Wade Wilson who died in 1920 and then to George L. Bower who died in 1949.
He attended the township school and when a very young man come to Punxsutawney to engage in the coal and lumber business in both of which he was markedly successful.

In anticipation of the country expanding with new states, the Continental Congress took possession of all land won during the Revolution, dividing it into 640-acre sections and selling it for $1 an acre.
