Warsaw University of Technology is the largest academic school of technology in Poland, and one of the largest in East Europe, employing 2.000 professors.
The model school of technology, a university of technology, was designed by the French, who in 1794 founded the School of Technology in Paris.
In Poland, the first multidisciplinary university of technology was the Preparatory School for the Institute of Technology, which was opened on the 4th of January, 1826.

In Poland, the same trend hastened the establishment of the Warsaw Institute of Technology in 1826, although the country itself was at the time partitioned and ruled by the Great Powers: Russia, Prussia and the Austrian Empire.
During the next twenty years Warsaw University of Technology became one of the leading technical academic schools in Europe, contributing significantly to the development of world technology.
The University has undergone several transformations involving both the increase and decrease in the number of faculties, academic staff and students.

The main education idea of this Warsaw School of Architecture, as it came to be later called, was based on the integration of arts and construction techniques, including a wide scope of human sciences and a historic curriculum.
Warsaw School of Architecture, as well as the Warsaw School of Architectural Drawing and Teaching of Landscape Design were also formed as early as in the 1920s.
Nevertheless, teaching and underground activities continued until the tragic Warsaw Uprising of 1944, when the Faculty building was destroyed and the courtyard used as a temporary burial grounds for insurgents.
