		Warta, Poland's second-largest nonlife insurer, has been majority owned by Kulczyk Holding (not rated) since 1999, but it was a capital injection from KBC Insurance N.V. (A+/Stable/--), the Belgian finance group, that contributed to the upgrade.
		Warta also achieved a significant reduction on its claims ratio in 2000 through a combination of improved claims management techniques and reduced reserve strengthening, which had impacted prior years' results.
		Although Warta is not the only investment-grade insurer in the Polish market, with AIG operating through its triple-'A' rated subsidiary, it is, however, the first domestic insurer to achieve a triple-'Bpi' rating.
