Explaining wartime rape Journal of Sex Research - Find Articles
Researchers are also unified in their belief that the lack of attention to wartime rape by scholars and international courts represents a serious dereliction of moral and intellectual duty (e.g., Sajor, 1998, p.
First, the term wartime rape, as it is employed in the literature, never indicates isolated examples of rape by individual fighters.
Rather, the term is used interchangeably with mass wartime rape to indicate distinct patterns of rape by soldiers at rates that are much increased over rates of rape that prevail in peacetime.

All curricula modules in the series are an outgrowth of the film, Voices in Wartime, a documentary that uses poetry to move us to the emotion of war explained by soldiers, civilians, journalists and medical personnel who have experienced the effects of combat firsthand.
If the module is to be used in conjunction with a specific theme, then it is appropriate to view the documentary at the beginning of the course of study and refer back to portions of the documentary that support the topics being engaged.
The Voices in Wartime Anthology, A Collection of Narratives and Poems provides in depth interviews offered by those individuals who appear in the documentary, detailed essays by noted experts in the field of poetry, war and survival, and poems used in the film or gathered to illuminate the theme of poetry in wartime.

Solving the Wartime Combat-Support Manpower Equation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
The development of wartime manpower standards to forecast contingency personnel requirements is of importance to every leader and decisionmaker in the Air Force because wartime manpower demands are an essential element in developing plans to fight the next war and in programming the next budget.
Since wartime concepts of operation are not considered vital to manning combat-support functions, rarely does much effort go into their development.
Appropriate wartime manpower models in each case reflect that function's peacetime orientation toward wartime operating concepts--concepts that may or may not be mutually supportive of each other's mission or the overall mission in a given environment.

While Paul Fussell does an outstanding job of recreating the wartime tricks and habits that kept the war effort humming in the USA and England, he writes as if the entire war was an unnecessary, even childish distraction from more serious business.
Wartime, then, reads better as a memoir, but even that is tricky since Fussell rarely refers to himself.
I respected Wartime for its blunt honesty, and for the times when it seemed like a sequel to The Great War and Modern Memory for tying general war experiences with the depelopment of war literature.

An agreement to transfer wartime OPCON in 2009, as reportedly suggested by DOD, likely has the perverse effect of denying the South Korean people an opportunity to render a judgment on this proposal, one that has profound consequences for their security.
Transferring wartime OPCON to two parallel, independent structures may not be the worst idea to come along in U.S.-ROK relations.

 WWII Guide: Wartime Hollywood
Since the first scenes of warfare appeared in a brief 1898 silent movie filmed during the Spanish American War, many American films have sought to capture the horror and unbridled heroism, carnage and undaunted courage, the senseless and meaning of warfare.
They portrayed World War II as a peoples' war, typically featuring a group of men from diverse ethnic backgrounds who are thrown together, tested on the battlefield, and molded into a dedicated fighting unit.
Many wartime films featured women characters playing an active role in the war by serving as combat nurses, riveters, welders, and long-suffering mothers who kept the home fires burning.

I think we ought to grant wartime liberties to the President when we are at war to such an extent that we have a draft in order to maintain an adequate military for the protection of our country.

The U.S. official said the reason Roh portrayed almost all military issues between the two allies in the context of Korea¡¯s sovereignty despite the fact that wartime operational control is purely a military concept and has nothing to do with sovereignty was an attempt to appeal to voters.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who is defending President Bush's anti-terrorism tactics in multiple court battles, said Friday that federal judges should not substitute their personal views for the president's judgments in wartime.
He said the Constitution makes the president commander in chief and the Supreme Court has long recognized the president's pre-eminent role in foreign affairs.
"The Constitution, by contrast, provides the courts with relatively few tools to superintend military and foreign policy decisions, especially during wartime," the attorney general told a conference on the judiciary at Georgetown University Law Center.
