Warwick is an extinct independent city which was located in the State of Virginia in the United States from 1952 until 1958.
Newport News became an independent city in 1896 by an act of the Virginia General Assembly, one of the few cities in Virginia to have never been incorporated as a town.
On July 1, 1958, after approval of voters in both jurisdictions, the City of Warwick was consolidated with the independent city of Newport News, reuniting the two communities legally and assuming the latter's name.

Robert Russa Moton was born in Amelia County, Virginia, on 26 August 1867, and was educated in a local freedman's school and at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University).
Constructed by William Rand, it is one of Virginia's few surviving colonial court structures and is notable for having a semicircular apse with a conical roof, reflective of the Colonial Capitol in Williamsburg.

Their disputes ran so high that in 1623 Lord Cavendish, Sir Edwin Sandys, and other opponents of Warwick were confined to their houses by order of the privy council on the charge of intemperate language and misrepresentations.
Warwick gave Cavendish the lie, and they arranged a duel, which only the vigilance of the government prevented.
The end of the matter was the appointment of Commissioners to inquire into the government of Virginia, and the revocation of the Company's Charter (24 Jul 1624).
