 Sally's Cottages: Self Catering Holiday Cottage in Eskdale, Wasdale and Lake District
The majority of the cottages we let are pet friendly but for those with allergies, we do have a few which are unable to accept dogs.
The holiday cottages we let tend to be in the Western Lake District, notably Eskdale, Wasdale, Ravenglass (Waberthwaite), Gosforth and Ennerdale, although we do have accommodation in the Borrowdale valley (near Keswick) and Grasmere.
Here there are still more sheep than people with countless walks either along valley floors and the coastal beaches of Drigg and Ravenglass or high in the fells – Scafell Pike is reached from either Eskdale or Wasdale.

Wasdale, the wildest of the valleys in the Lake District, is the remote and beautiful area between Gosforth in West Cumbria, past Wastwater, England's deepest lake, and up to the mountains Great Gable and Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain.
Set amidst yew trees in the Viking fields at the head of Wasdale, near the deepest lake and the highest mountain in England, is the little St Olaf's Church, possibly the smallest church in England.

Wasdale has its own minibus, but public transport is also often used which gives children the opportunity to travel on buses and trains, thus promoting greater independence skills.

Running northwest from Wasdale Head is Mosedale; this deep-sided valley has a wonderfully wild atmosphere with no roads or buildings and only the odd sheep bleating to disturb the peace of the place.
Viewed from the Wasdale side it looks the least important of the group, it's not until you get to its top that its craggy northern profile reveals itself and its grandeur becomes apparent.

Wasdale MRT has been assisting people in the western fells for almost 35 years.
At the AGM on the 30th September 1968, the team changed it's name to the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team intending to fill a gap between the Cockermouth and Eskdale teams.
Affiliation to the Mountain Rescue Committee came on the 12th July 1969, when the rescue equipment at the Wasdale Head Post was officially transferred to the team.

Wasdale, set beneath the mountains Scafell Pike, The Great Gable, The Pillar and on the side of Wastwater (the deepest lake in England) is no more than one hotel, two campsites and a few houses scattered over a two mile stretch.
Unless you can get a room at the Wasdale Head Hotel, the main reason for going there is for the camping and a centre for mountain walking, scrambling and trekking.
For me personally, Wasdale is one of the most memorable places I've been to.

We found the coverage offered by BT Cellnet to be sufficient on Scafell, between Wasdale Head and most points on the mountain.
