On July 11, the City of Washburn became the first city in the United States to begin the process to become a part of an eco-municipality in the region.
The action came after the Washburn City Council voted to participate in the set up of an eco-municipality after Torbjorn Lahti, founder of the eco-municipality movement in Sweden, visited the Chequamegon Bay region for two Alliance for Sustainability sponsored events last year.
The grant will be used to make repairs to the town’s community center, and senior center — built in 1930, which is severely deteriorated and unsafe for continued use.
