Welcome to the Capital Region USA -- Getting Around
A free shuttle bus service runs about every 10 minutes from the terminal to BWI Airport Rail Station, an airport Amtrak and MARC commuter station from which you can travel on to Washington, Baltimore and beyond.

 Washington, DC
Union Station is served by MARC and Virginia Railway Express commuter trains, and Amtrak intercity rail.
Dulles International is used for most international travel to and from D.C., and is the largest domestic low-cost hub in the U.S. BWI is used more for international and domestic service serving the Baltimore area, although, thanks to Southwest Airlines, it too carries a lot of low-fare traffic into the metro region.
Washington is located in proximity to three airports: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) between Dulles, Virginia and Chantilly, Virginia ; Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Arlington County; and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) near Baltimore, Maryland.

 Millstone Bypass Alert Position Papers
It would connect Route 571 (Washington Road east of Route 1) in West Windsor from the NJ Transit / Amtrak station (known as Princeton Junction) over Route 1 just south of the current Harrison Street interchange via an overpass (grade-separated interchange) to Washington Road west of Route 1.
Well known to locals and alumni for its American Elms (a variety of elm known, understandably, as Princeton) planted in 1920, Washington Road is unmatched as a scenic entrance to one of the nations most academically respected institutions.
The Bypass would remove three lights from Route 1, (a) the Washington Road/Route 1 junction would permit only right-turns, (b) Fisher Place would become a cul-de-sac and (c) Harrison Street would utilize the overpass and, as determined by NJDOT, potentially reduce congestion in Penns Neck (the community along Washington Road east of Route 1).

You have to go from these airports to Union Station in Washington, DC in order to take Amtrak to Charlottesville.  Since DCA is right on the metroline it is the easiest airport to access Union Station.
One-way fare from IAD is $20-25, but service is very limited and reservations are either required or strongly suggested.  Amtrak trains provide service from the BWI Rail Station (which connects to Union Station), where free shuttles serve the airport terminal.
The BWI Express/B30 service runs every 40 minutes, 7 days a week to the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is located on the Green Line of the Washington Metro System.

FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION : Executive Summary
Washington Union Station suffers from track capacity limitations in handling resurgent intercity travel on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor as well as heavy commuter volumes (of both VRE and the Maryland MARC commuter system) for which the station’s infrastructure was not originally designed.
In the Richmond area, Amtrak trains stop at Staples Mill Road only; the City of Richmond is restoring, in three phases, the centrally-located Main Street Station as an intermodal facility, to include the operation of intercity trains.
So intertwined were operating schedules, practices, and performance for rail services north and south of Washington that Amtrak and the FRA decided to fulfill both an obvious planning need and the intent of Congress by extending their ongoing collaborative analyses south to Richmond.
