Washington County is a county located in the southeastern part of Rhode Island, a U.S. state.
Washington County borders Kent County to the north and New London County in Connecticut to the west.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.40% under the age of 18, 11.20% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 24.40% from 45 to 64, and 12.80% who are 65 years of age or older.

In 1997, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) received a request from Rhode Island State Representative Kenneth Carter and U.S. Representative Bob Weygand to evaluate the potential public health impact of the Dry Bridge Road Landfill (1).
ATSDR requested the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) to sample off-site soil at a house bordering the landfill property.
The Dry Bridge Road Landfill is an active landfill on approximately 20 acres of land in the Annaquatucket River drainage basin in southeastern Rhode Island (2).

 The Narragansett Indian Tribe
In 1709, the tribal land base was reduced to the Town of Charlestown, Rhode Island, by deed to the Rhode Island Colony.
The tribe reclaimed part its land as a result of federal legislation, the Rhode Island Indian Claims Settlement Act, passed September 30, 1979, and the Narragansett tribe finally achieved Federal recognition and acknowledgment by a presidential proclamation issued February 10, 1983.
Tribal membership of more than 2,500 lives on reservation acreage in Washington County, Rhode Island, and is governed by a Chief Sachem and a nine-member Tribal Council under the tribe's traditional, cultural, organic law.

Because the Bentleys of Rhode Island are such an enormous clan and the name "William Bentley" is so frequent, this is a confusing line to research.
Most notably, there must be another "William Bentley" from the same area of Rhode Island who married Mary Eliot and his line is often combined with this William Bentley who married first Elizabeth (Gardiner) and whose will was proved in 12 AUG 1760 by his surviving wife Bathsheba Bentley (also widow of Israel Lewis).
Bathsheba had seven children with Israel Lewis that were oddly not mentioned in the will.
