Local and state health officials are investigating the outbreak that has sickened at least 38 inmates, prison spokeswoman Lori Scamahorn said Wednesday.
A recent Washington state Department of Health report on the earlier outbreak concluded the contamination of a stainless steel food preparation table was the culprit.
The penitentiary changed food preparation practices after that incident, including stressing hand-washing among inmates, requiring food handlers to wear gloves during preparation and serving, and thoroughly sanitizing food preparation surfaces.

Judge Everett Smith set her bail at $2,500, which she was unable to furnish.  A codefendant in the grand larceny case told Captain Tennant that he and Johnson planned to hire perjured witnesses to clear Mahoney and, if possible, “fix” a juror.
Attorney Johnston immediately filed a notice of appeal to the Washington State Supreme Court.  Mahoney remained in the King County Jail until a decision was made. On September 6, 1922, the State Supreme Court denied Mahoney’s petition for a new trial based on judicial errors.

Alvin Paulsen who, at the time the experiments were conducted, was a professor at the University of Washington at Seattle; and (2) certain former employees of the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Between March, 2002, and March, 2003, Washington State Department of Health (WDOH) identified five clusters of Campylobacter jejuni infections among inmates and staff at the Washington State Penitentiary.
Genetic testing, completed through a process termed pulse-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), revealed that all of the individuals’ Campylobacter jejuni isolates were genetically indistinguishable.
Investigation by WDOH and CDC identified, among other things, a causal connection between a drain contaminated with pigeon feces on the roof and a leaking, uncapped pipe in the kitchen salad preparation area at the WSP.
