Samuel Gardner, one of the earliest settlers of this county, died at his residence four miles northwest of this village on Saturday morning last, at the ripe old age of 87 years.

Henry's death record does appear in the Michigan Death Index, his date of death was recorded as 10 March 1870, in Gratiot County, cause of death "killed by his team", place of birth England, age at death 26 years, his father was listed as John English of Washington [Township].

By 1880, the 38-year-old Anson was living in Washington Township, Gratiot County, near the Clinton County border, with his wife Julia and their children Frank, Carrie and Orin.
Preston died May 7, 1886, in Washington Township as a result of a gunshot wound received in the Army.
His Gratiot County death record indicates his parents were from Clinton County, but this doesn’t necessary mean they were still alive, although they could have been.
