Marvel Comics' original answer to the Justice League — a group of already established superheroes — was to create the Fantastic Four, a team of original characters who had never previously appeared.
The first time, in 1996, was part of the Heroes Reborn reboot, the second, a year later, returned the team to its original continuity, and the third time, in 2005 with "New" added to the title, was done purely as a marketing exercise [1].
A newcomer to comics, Pérez's early work was strongly reminiscent of Kirby's, and he would go on to become one of the most popular comic book artists of the next 15 years.

The Killer Wasp claimed that Jake was raised by the Yellow Wasp as his own and, feeling spurned, the Killer Wasp had slain them both in a jealous rage.
His control of the his wasps seems more chemical than telepathic and Wildcat has notices that the Wasp is constantly coated with a fluid that seems to prevent the wasps from sting him as they sting his victims.

At least the final gag had Wasp pretending to be "helpless" in a mocking way.

For purposes of the argument, Motley Crue, Ratt, and WASP (and if you remember WASP you should either be very proud or very worried) are all bad comics.
Still, it was better than what Crue, Ratt, and WASP were putting out, regardless of how many times Ratt could get Milton Berle to show up in their videos.
In other words, no one but a comic book reader is going to be exposed to the ads-- someone already in the fold, so to speak.

The introduction fairly quickly thereafter of a pretty girl sidekick named the Wasp should also be worthy of a footnote in comics history in and of itself, as I'm not at all certain any male superhero had ever had a feminine crimefighting partner previous to this unless they were both members of a larger group.
Pym's own feature was clearly a victim from the beginning of self-perpetuating legacy of failure, begun in Stan Lee's apathy and continued through creative mishandling by a bottom of the barrel writer on one hand and an overworked, under-appreciated, and admittedly, inappropriate to superheroics anyway, artist on the other.
Prolific comics writer Gerard Jones liked the Shooter version so much that he's since remarked on how boring Pym has become, now that he doesn't try to kill the Avengers or beat his wife anymore.

I've since read that the cards were credited with giving the entire comic industry a boost, as kids who never had any interest in the characters were suddenly buying tons of books.
Its not just that wasp is ugly, but if you read the comics, particuarly old avengers, you will find that she is also an obnoxious ditz.
The wasp has to be one of the worst characters in marvel comics history.
