 Griggs, Novel, Family Comic 1
Compound all of this uncertainty with our generational fear of the future and the specter of a self-perpetuating technological wasteland and you are left with neo-gothic comics and heavy metal music.
One, I think it was War and Peace, skidded and hopped half-way across the cold gray cement and polyethylene surfaces of the Greyhound bus station in downtown San Francisco before coming to a halt in a grimy corner.
Now that I think of it, this is just like those Russian novels that I complained about having to read in college, the ones I wanted to throw — actually the ones I did throw in some cases — against a wall.

 s22.txt
Given that this is a Sonic comic, the answer should be a no-brainer, but this is no ordinary comic so a brief history lesson is in order.
I'd wanted the comic to be more reflective of the SatAM style of storytelling where there was the guerrilla war against Robotnik as a pretext for both credible action sequences and also well-written interactions between the characters.
One of them was that this is a comic that appealed to pre-adolescent boys and girls wouldn't form a significant share of the readership.

 :: News @ Ronin Studios ::
This is a one shot, full color, 22 page comic about a father trying to find his estranged son, only for him to discover that his son has become a ruthless killer.
However, being new doesn’t mean that they couldn’t do their part in spreading the universal message of comic book love that knows no bounds.
Set against the backdrop a world in the grip of a second ice age, Wasteland tells the story of a man trying to save his son in a world gone mad.

Calvin and Hobbes :: Magic On Paper
The Sunday comics pages, once a gorgeous pasture for the art lover to graze in, have become a sullen wasteland where the strips are increasingly small, the layouts depressingly unimaginative.
The characters Calvin and Hobbes, and all images and ideas thereof are copyrighted by Bill Watterson and those comic strips may not be reproduced without his express consent and the permission of the syndicate.
Though the strip lasted just 10 years (1985-1995), Calvin & Hobbes remains the funniest, most poignant comic strip to hit newspapers in decades.

SpannerWorks - Judge Dredd DVD Review
Sylvester Stallone plays Joseph Dredd, a Judge (a sort of all-purpose police officer, judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one) in the post-apocalyptic (2139 to be precise, better mark that in your diary!) city of Mega City One, located in The Cursed Earth: a radioactive desert wasteland formerly known as the USA.
The film's set designers and effects crew, on the other hand, have captured the gargantuan scale of Mega City One superbly, with brilliantly designed sets and visual effects sequences that look as though they were ripped straight from the comic book's pages.
The film just doesn't capture the humour of the comic book, the acting is bad, the script is weak and Sylvester Stallone, physically a good match for the part, just seems to be sleepwalking through the film.

Clowes and his wife had planned to go to Easter Island with a bunch of friends for the event--"I liked the idea of being there, and having the whole Western world destroyed--coming back to some kind of Planet of the Apes-like wasteland"--but it turned out to be astronomically expensive.
Ghost World brought Clowes a broader audience, at the same time establishing him as one of the most important comic artists of the now crowded field, as well as a bona fide literary entity.

 Tribute to Del Close
Del was an important figure in the ‘60s counterculture around Chicago and San Francisco (the bizarre but true story about the time he went roller-skating through the sewers of Chicago with a flashlight strapped to his head, shooting rats, is related in the first issue of Wasteland).
Close’s real life was indeed the stuff of comic books, a real-life Forest Gump adventure.  He was born in Kansas, where his cousin’s  cousin--General Dwight Eisenhower--came over for Thanksgiving dinner.
Comedy icon--and comic book creator--Del Close died March 4, 1999 at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.  He was 64.

Not only has he earned the love of fans ranging from a 92-year-old woman in San Francisco to middle-schoolers who love a comic that doesn't talk down to them, he has also proven that a comic strip needn't be printed to be an artistic and commercial success.
The strip is written by Chris Onstad, a Stanford grad and disgruntled former rider of the Silicon Valley boom.

Rather than taking the Long Walk into the spiritual wasteland that was our home, this man decided to blend in, fix the refrigerator door (again!) and move on.

Salon Entertainment Joyce Millman Middle-aged wasteland
In Comedy Central's twisted new series "Strangers With Candy," celebrated New York playwright, comic and waitress Amy Sedaris plays Jerri Blank, a 46-year-old former teenage runaway, junkie, hooker and jailbird who returns home after 32 years determined to have the "normal" adolescence she never had.
"Strangers With Candy" manages to sustain the "Afterschool Special" joke with its smudged, '70s neo-realistic look, generic pseudo-pop background music and Jerri's throwback wardrobe, which is so hideous I suspect it came from somebody's actual closet, not a Hollywood costume shop.
Comedy Central's first live-action original non-skit series, "Strangers With Candy" is one of the most inventively bizarre shows in a long time (right up there with HBO's recent trial run of the mock-rock duo sitcom "Tenacious D").

Valley Girl Movie Review at Hollywood Video
This comic updating of Romeo and Juliet stars Cage as Randy, a Hollywood hipster who falls in love with prototypical Valley Girl, Julie (Deborah Foreman), after he crashes a party in what he considers an arid wasteland, suburban San Fernando Valley.
Valley Girl was made on a shoestring budget of $350,000 and, from its executive producers' point-of-view, meant to be a cheap exploitation flick.
Twenty years later, Valley Girl with its New Wave soundtrack (one of the first of its kind, becoming almost another character in the film), slang, and big hair is very much an artifact of its time.

He's the kind of comic who is often funny, but just as often so irritating that you'd like to take a swing at him.
The film is just a trifle, but in the mid-winter cinematic wasteland, you have to grade on a curve.
In "The Wedding Singer," Sandler reigns in his more annoying character traits for the most part, playing a veritable Boy Scout lost in the self-centered, hedonistic 80s.
