A Clash Between Game and Narrative
That computer games and narratives are very different phenomena and, as a consequence, any combination of the two, like in "interactive fiction", or "interactive storytelling" faces enormous problems.
As the educational level of the average computer user decreased and the features and capabilities of the average computer increased, the trend in computer games went to 'arcade' games instead of text.
Fortunately, we seem to be slowly moving from seeing the computer game as a sociological or even pathological phenomena towards seeing it as an aesthetic object to examine.
