But the rain during the night and the fact that to get there they had to use farm tracks that were little better than quagmires, they took almost all day on the 18th of June to get there dragging their artillery wagons and so on.
The early hours at Waterloo of 18 June were spent in cleaning weapons, checking ammunition, and Hougoumont, La Haie Sainte and Papelotte were fortified, a barricade going up on the Genappe road which lead directly to Napoleon's headquarters, just south of La Haie Sainte.
