2000 Redistribution of Western Australia Final Report
The determination of the augmented Electoral Commission for Western Australia is that the boundaries and names of the Electoral Divisions in Western Australia are as proposed by the Redistribution Committee for Western Australia, except for the changes described later in this Report.
Notice of the Redistribution Committee's proposal was published in the Commonwealth Gazette on 26 May 2000.  Outline maps of the proposed redistribution by the Redistribution Committee for Western Australia and a notice inviting Objections and Comments on Objections against the proposal were published in "The West Australian" and "The Australian" newspapers on 26 May 2000.
This objection proposed that the locality of Waterman be transferred back to the Division of Stirling from the Division of Moore.  The augmented Electoral Commission noted that the locality of Waterman was included in the Division of Moore to satisfy elector number tolerances, and therefore determined that the objection should not be upheld.

Dragon Search - Western Australia Database Analysis
In the Western Australian South Coast Bioregion, 60% of weedy sightings have come from Bremer Bay (and of those sightings, 41% have been recorded in the Back Beach area, and 28% from Little Boat Harbour); 18% of weedy sightings have come from the Esperance area, and 14% from Albany.
However, despite the non-systematic nature of the data, and the smaller number of leafy records compared with weedies, records from Dragon Search appear to support other available evidence that spring and summer are the main periods in which seadragon species in Western Australia breed.
Twenty seven percent of all beachwashed seadragons sighted to date have come from Bremer Bay and 10% from the Esperance area (both in the WA South Coast Bioregion), and 12% from the Perth metropolitan area (including several suburban beaches, and Hillarys’ Boat Harbour).

On 12 July 1996, at the expiration of the period allowed for comments relating to the suggestions lodged with the Redistribution committee, the number of electors enrolled for the State was 1 104 904.
Under Section 65(2) of the Act, the Electoral Commissioner determined that the quota of electors for Western Australia was 78 921 (1 104 904 divided by 14) and thus the permitted range of the margin of allowance of 10% below and above the quota would be 71 029 to 86 813 respectively.
It is proposed to achieve this by shedding the localities of North Beach, Waterman, Marmion and part of Sorrento south of St Helier Drive and Seacrest Drive to Stirling and the Wanneroo localities east of Lake Joondalup to Cowan.

Review of the great white shark   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Game fishery captures of sharks in S.E. Australia between 1961 and 1990 indicated a catch-ratio of great whites of 1:22 in the 1960's, declining to 1:38 in the 1970's and 1:651 in the 1980's (Pepperell, 1992).
Despite the considerable efforts by many individuals there, Australia had been slow to act in affording full protection for white sharks but an increasing movement of public shark-sympathy, supported by a number of scientific and conservation bodies, ensured that it was a matter never far from media attention.
At the time of writing, the Shark Trust and EEA were pressing the Maltese Government to protect white sharks in their coastal waters, and become the first Mediterranean nation to take such an inportant step in the process.
