The album is mix of memory and regret, love and loneliness, nostalgia and beauty, all wrapped in the perfectly placed words from the pen of Jimmy Webb.

Watermark (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Watermark is an album by Irish musician Enya, released in 1988 (see 1988 in music).
Featuring her first major hit, "Orinoco Flow", Watermark was Enya's breakthrough album release, and is considered a seminal example of New Age music, although Enya herself does not consider her work to be of that genre.
In 1989, an extended version of Watermark included "Storms in Africa Part II" (as sung in English) which had previously been released on a popular CD single.

To be sure, her success was as much due to marketing a niche audience in later years equally in love with Yanni and Michael Flatley's Irish dancing, but Enya's rarely given a sense of pandering in her work.
Watermark ends with a fascinating piece, "Na Laetha Geal M'Oige," where fellow Irish modern/traditional fusion artist Davy Spillane adds a gripping, heartbreaking uilleann pipe solo to the otherwise calm synth-based performance.

Watermark (1988) -- The first proper album by Enya sets the standard for the rest of the albums with beautiful melodies, lovely instruments, and about a zillion layers of Enya's voice.
Though this album was even more successful, it may be just a touch not as good--if for no other reason than that Watermark did what was good about it first.

Enya's 1988 recording Watermark achieved landmark success with her groundbreaking use of multi-tracking technology to fuse new age and Celtic themes and instrumentation.
While there are plenty of subsequent albums from Enya that are great, "Watermark" has some of her best work, from the Latin "Cursum Perficio" to "Orinoco Flow." There isn't one bad cut on this album and the Celtic singing and Latin are hypnotic and mysterious.
But if you had to name landmark albums in the growth of New Age music, this would probably be one of them.

Watermark - Art Garfunkel - Song Listings
The original idea was for Art Garfunkel to record an album of songs written by Jimmy Webb.
But when the leadoff single, "Crying in My Sleep," failed to make the charts, Columbia Records withdrew the album and induced Garfunkel to put together a cover of Sam Cooke's "(What A) Wonderful World" with Paul Simon and James Taylor harmonizing.
And the initial idea was a good one: Garfunkel handles Webb's wistful pop songs well, and he has made good choices from Webb's songbook, dating back to the 1960s, though avoiding his big bits.
