Watermelon Carnival Carshow / Water Valley, MS August 5, 2006: The annual carshow held during the Watermelon Carnival.
It has been quite a few years since I had been to this show, and this year was the first time I have ever participated in the show (,kind of funny since this is my home town).
No entry fee was required as well as the Watermelon Carnival held every year that is mostly centralized to the city park on the north end of town.

The carnival program on August 27 was ushered in by the noise of many instruments as the crowd began gathering.
One of the most impressive floats in the parade and one which was as typically southern as the watermelon festival itself, was the float which was entered by the Daughters of the Confederacy.
This was followed by the crowning of the Queen of the Carnival, Eleanor Houston, telephone operator in the office of the chief dispatcher and daughter of Chief Dispatcher and Mrs.

In 1931, the first Watermelon Carnival was held in Water Valley.
For the next nine years, the Watermelon Carnival was an annual event bringing national recognition to Water Valley, which was proclaimed the "Watermelon Capitol of the World" in 1932.
However, the Watermelon Carnival was suspended at the beginning of World War II, and another one was not held until 1980.

I think that was the best part for her.
