 Clarke Township Pioneers
Clarke Township was surveyed in 1797, and by 1880 was described as one of the best settled in the district.
In his prime, he was considered the strongest man in the township, and was still hale and hearty in 1878.
The first church built in the township was the old Church of England building, erected in 1840.

 2003 Success Stories: Ontario
In December of 1999 Artemesia Waters Ltd., approached the Township of Artemesia (now the Municipality of Grey Highlands), with a proposal to build a water extraction, loading, and storage facility, and a bottling plant, in an area of the township with agricultural zoning.
Issues of concern are water contamination, destruction of Class I wetland habitat, degradation of forests and associated wildlife habitat, and the destruction of prime agricultural land.
Water taking appears to be a growth industry with no bounds, which has sounded the alarm among environmentally concerned citizens in Grey County.

 Ontario Township
Ontario township was organized, and the first annual meeting was held in the school-house on section 32, April 5, 1853.
Ontario and Rio formed one voting precinct, and the first election was held in the latter town.
The early settlers were from the State of New York, and the township was named after Lake Ontario, which forms a part of the northern boundary of the Empire State.

 Huron Township
The sparkling waters of Lake Huron inspired the name of the former Huron Township, lying at the south-west corner of Bruce County.
Although many of the settlers to the township were from the "Old Country", many others relocated from the other settled parts of Canada-what are now Ontario, Quebec and the Eastern Provinces.
The Township of Huron merged with the village of Lucknow and Kinloss Township to form an amalgamated community in 1999.

 Ontario Lighthouses
Pelée Island is accessible by ferries from Kingsville and Leamington, Ontario, and from Sandusky, Ohio.
This is the oldest lighthouse in Ontario and second oldest in Canada, one of the oldest buildings in Toronto, and the oldest lighthouse on either side of the Great Lakes.
Located at the end of Ontario Street at the east end of Killarney, adjacent to Killarney Provincial Park; the Friends of Killarney Park have a nice photo and keep an eye on the lighthouse.
