The new album "Watership Down - Original Soundtrack Music and Songs" was released by Polydor Records on October 2nd 2000.
The ITV series (26 half hours, based on Richard Adams' novel) "Watership Down"was scored by Mike,- or more accurately, he provided a newly-scored "library" of hundreds of specially composed symphonic pieces- from 2 seconds to 6 minutes- for the animators and producers to use in post production of the series.
The song, "Bright Eyes" which Mike wrote for the "Watership Down" movie back in 1976 (released 1979) was re-recorded with Stephen Gately of Boyzone, singing.

  Watership Down (1978)
It's clear from the beginning that Watership Down is a tale about the dance with death — both avoiding and accepting it — as the film opens with an imaginatively rendered depiction of rabbitdom's blood-stained creation myth, the story of their ancestor, El-ahrairah.
Watership Down lies somewhere between Animal Farm, The Seven Samurai, and the works of Sam Peckinpah in its mature themes and depiction of violence.

 WATERSHIP DOWN - DVD
Watership Down is essentially a handsomely mounted adventure sold wit allegorical elements and a few sticky archetypes.
On the one hand, Watership Down's character animation is shoddy, making some actions needlessly mysterious and the principal figures largely indistinguishable from one another; on the other hand, the process of adaptation and compaction has resulted in a few rather abrupt scene changes.
Above its shortcomings, Watership Down is haunting (particularly a near-death nightmare underscored by Art Garfunkel's "Bright Eyes" and the impressionistic fate of the hero-rabbits' warren) and unusually thoughtful for something produced in what is still thought of in the United States as a children's medium.

At times, Watership Down is almost pleading in tone, suggesting that we still have time to stop our destruction of animals' homes before it is too late—an idea that appeals to many.
However Watership Down is read—as a political, social, or environmental critique or simply as a book about the search for a home and life—it is undoubtedly greatly influenced by the state of the natural world in the twentieth century and the role that humanity must play within that world.

Review of "Tales from Watership Down"
Watership Down is a classic story about a band of rabbits who escape the destruction of their home warren and brave many dangers and hardships to find a place to live where they can be safe and prosper.

The stories about the Watership Down warren and the characters from the first book are a bit more satisfying, but I would have liked a single story with a beginning, middle, and end, rather than a series of vignettes.
