  Underground History - North of Harrow & Wealdstone
In the meantime, the Bakerloo service from Queen's Park to Watford Junction was stopped in on 24th October 1982 as it was viewed that the mainline train services were adequate to support the stations along that route.
The existing station at Watford West would be refurbished and re-opened and the line would once again provide London Underground links to the existing mainline stations at Watford High Street and Watford Junction.
This is because in the latter years of when Watford Junction was served by the Tube, an Underground train was regularly stabled on this stretch overnight and on weekends to prevent the train from having to roll back to the depot.

Approaching Watford on national rail one would be forgiven for believing you were approaching the nineteenth century, a smoking factory and allotments still sit quietly behind the ground and the railway lines adds to the feeling that you are approaching a throwback of centuries gone by.

The Town Hall is situated in the centre of Watford on the junction of Rickmansworth Road, Hempstead Road and the Parade (top of the High Street). All visitors should report to the Customer Service Centre upon arrival.
Leave Watford Junction station and bear left onto Clarendon Road, a road lined with tall modern office blocks.

The name Watford first appeared in an Anglo-Saxon charter of 1007AD and is probably derived from the Old English words Waet (meaning full of water, because the area was notoriously liable to flood in winter) and ford (a shallow point across the River Colne where the river could be crossed).
Watford’s growth was further aided by its prominence at the crossing of two turnpike roads and being sited on the main railway track from London to Aylesbury.
The London to Birmingham Railway arrived at Watford in the 1840s and the branch line to St Albans in 1858, when the station was re-named Watford Junction.

Leaving the main line at Watford Junction, it ran mostly through open countryside to the edge of Rickmansworth; the one intermediate station was at the south end of Watford High Street.
Most trains using this depot left and entered service at Watford Junction; however, until 1951 there were also services that terminated at Harrow and Wealdstone after the morning peak, ran empty to the depot via the south-west side of the triangle, then returned the same way in the afternoon to enter service at Bushey.
No LU trains are permitted to enter the bay platform at Willesden Junction, or to run north of the reversing siding at Harrow and Wealdstone or south of the reversing points at Kilburn High Road (because of the lack of fourth rail).

A report into a 1996 accident at Watford, issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is urging Railtrack, the owner of Britain's railway infrastructure to install Automatic Train Protection.
The accident occurred at Watford Junction when the a train from Euston to Milton Keyes overan a red stop signal and was struck by an empty train travelling at about 50 mph (80 km/h).
The driver claimed that he had not seen two, previous caution signals and when he saw the red signal, which was obsured by bushes his train was travelling at 68 mph (110km/h) and he could not pull-up in time.

There's a traffic light controlled crossing a few metres from the junction, though you may find it easier to cross the High Street some distance from here, where things are a bit quieter.
You go up a slight slope before Watford Town Hall on your left, a step jutting out from the left of the pavement indicates the entrance to the Colosseum, up 5 steps, before a dividing rail (beyond rail it's six steps) a series of double doors is in front of you.
Stops M and N are on an island pavement between the southwest side of Beechen Grove and a bus lane which runs by the pavement along the northeast side of Charter Place and the Harlequin Centre.
