Watts believes it is necessary to challenge old myths, old systems and old government models, such as welfare, that he says are keeping people in poverty, that prevent broken schools from being fixed and block access to preventative healthcare and better educational and job opportunities.
Watts countered that all terrorists, whether at home or abroad, need to be dealt with and that the past model of containment during the 1990s simply hasn't worked—North Korea, Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein only grew more dangerous during that time.

Watts Trustee Lisa Tennison was quoted in news reports as saying that although sufficient signatures had been gathered, not all petitions were turned in, as those running the petition drive came to a "consensus" and that people were "scared".
Watts Town Trustee Jim Robison was found guilty in a non-jury trial on a charge of domestic abuse, sentenced to 30 days in jail and was escorted directly to the Adair County Jail to begin his sentence.
