 Wave
In a wave, the energy of a vibration is moving away from the source in the form of a disturbance within the surrounding medium (Hall, 1980: 8).
Sound waves in air are manifested as alternating air-condensations and rarefactions that spread away from the vibrating source with a velocity usually not related to the velocity amplitude of the vibration.
The units of the amplitude depend on the type of wavewaves on a string have an amplitude expressed as a distance (meters), sound waves as pressure (pascals) and electromagnetic waves as the amplitude of the electric field (volts/meter).

Second happy time - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the 5 Type IX boats in the first wave of Operation Drumbeat, it was a bonanza.
When the first wave U-boats returned to port in early February, Dönitz wrote that the commander "had such an abundance of opportunities for attack that he could not by any means utilise them all: there were times when there were up to ten ships in sight, sailing with all lights burning on peacetime courses".
By this time, the second wave of Type IX U-boats had arrived in American waters, and the third wave had reached its patrol area off the oil ports of the Caribbean.

Nat' Academies Press, Reassessment of the Marine Salvage Posture of the United States (1994)
Wind and Wave Forces In analyzing the forces on a large ship in storm conditions, it is necessary to estimate the actual sea state in terms of significant wave height and period, because wave drift forces acting on a vessel increase as the wave height increases and usually decrease as the wave period increases.
The wave drift forces on a ship in a building storm are normally much higher than in a fully developed sea of the same height because of the shorter mean wave periods.
Wave heights refer only to wind waves, and swells from distant or old storms are nearly always superimposed on the wind-wave pattern.

Mobhunter.com: The Myths of Class Balancing
I think there are more classes who are seen as viable in the DPS field, but it seems to me that dps is the most populous segment of the eq playerbase who is waiting on groups, so you may not get overlooked for a wizzy, but they probably aren't looking for either of you.
Popularity/perception of classes is different from the reality of their effectiveness, but the disparity is not so extreme as to cause people to overwhelmingly desire one class over another unless there is some significant difference between the two classes.
When entire classes are so disposable that a highly flagged wizard or ranger is told to throw away two years of development but any 60+ enchanter or cleric is begged to remain in the game, I think things are little skewed.
