After the Manly railway was scrapped, a new suburban railway line between St Leonards and Eastwood was proposed using the spare platforms and tunnels intended for the Manly line at North Sydney station.
A bridge at the North Sydney end which brought the tramlines across the roadway to North Sydney station was removed but its approach remains and is used as a car park.
The double track railway was pass from Gladesville through Annandale, joining the City Circle on its western arc and leaving it on its eastern side for Watsons Bay and the south eastern suburbs, terminating at Botany or La Perouse.

Waverton is a CityRail railway station on the Sydney's North Shore railway line, 6.1 km from Central and services a largely residential area.
Prior to 20 May 1929, Waverton was called Bay Rd station, the previous name applying because the station is crossed by Bay Road.
The station is served by four trains per hour for most of the time, with additional trains at weekday peak hours.

The first Lavender Bay railway station was opened on 30 May 1915 at a site 300 metres "north" of the original Milsons point station on the North Shore line on the edge of Lavender Bay.
After the Sydney Harbour Bridge opened on 19 March 1932, North Shore line services were diverted to the new stations at North Sydney and Milsons point and onward over the bridge into the city.
