WawayandaNew York City utility Consolidated Edison said this week that it is seeking a contract to buy 500 megawatts of electric capacity from a new power plant beginning in 2006.
Under New York state's deregulation plan, utilities such as Con Ed have sold off their power plants and now depend on merchant power companies like Calpine to produce electricity.
The Wawayanda Energy Center is designed to feed into the existing Marcy-South power line, which runs down to New York.
