Wayfarer (dinghy) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wayfarer is a wooden or fibreglass hulled Bermuda rigged sailing dinghy, often used for short sailing trips as a 'day boat'.
This was the original wooden Wayfarer designed for construction by both amateur and licensed builders, with a hull and deck made from plywood.
The Wayfarer World was introduced in 1997 and was designed as a collaboration between Ian Proctor and his son Keith.

Yachting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
These days, yacht racing and dinghy racing are common participant sports around the developed world, particularly where favourable wind conditions and access to reasonably sized bodies of water are available.
Dinghy races are conducted on sheltered water on smaller craft, usually designed for crews of between one and three people.
Dinghy designs vary from small, stable, and slow craft for novice sailors to lightweight, high-speed designs that are very difficult for even experienced crews to sail safely and effectively.

 UK Boatlinks: Dinghy sailing
The Dinghy Cruising Association is dedicated to the art and science of dinghy cruising - using a small boat under sail or power to explore the backwaters, cross seas and oceans, camp in splendid isolation or with others, cruise at leisure or make fast passage.
The Wayfarer dinghy was designed by Ian Proctor in 1957 and has since acquired an unrivalled reputation as a tough and seaworthy cruising dinghy, yet at the same time being responsive and rewarding to race.
The wayfarer is the ideal dinghy for beginners could also learn to sail, day-sail with the children, Cruise to adventure (some Wayfarer sailors tackle journeys 'big boat' cruisers would be wary of!), and race with spinnakers, at your local club or at open, national and international events with one of the most competitive fleets around.

HOSTELLERS SAILING CLUB - Wayfarer dinghy
The Wayfarer was designed in 1957 by Ian Proctor as a robust dinghy suitable for racing and general purpose sailing, including sailing on fairly exposed waters such as open estuaries.
The popularity of the Wayfarer for this particular kind of sailing was established back in the '60s when Frank Dye made ledgendary dinghy cruises from Scotland to Iceland and Norway in the Wayfarer 'Wanderer'.
The Wayfarer dinghy is 15'10" overall length, 6'3" in beam (width) and has a minimum permissible hull weight of 372lbs.

Hostellers Sailing Club - Dinghy cruising
No one would pretend that a dinghy is as comfortable (or should we say less uncomfortable) as a yacht for long sea passages, although the trailability of a dinghy may allow a sea passage to be avoided in the first place.
Most dinghies have, or should have, a rowing thwart and in many cases the clear height under this thwart is too little to permit sleeping on the bottom of the boat.
Most dinghy cruisers sail within harbours and estuaries or within half a mile or so from the shore so do not need to plot a course on a chart or fix a position with multiple compass bearings, even if these were practical things to do on a small open boat.

In 2003, we owned a house on the Estuary near Shell Island in North Wales, and we had a Wayfarer dinghy on a mooring in the river.
The problem was that by the time the dinghy had the covers off and was rigged and we'd got down the river and out to sea, we could only be out an hour or two before tide or exposure got the better of us.
So we decided to swap the dinghy for a small cruiser which we could keep on the same mooring but would make it a good deal easier to go for a sail.
